Heritage Open Day Saturday 14th September 2013 Tour times: 10am, 11am, 12noon, 2pm and 3pm.

The Playhouse will open its famous red doors for a fun packed day. The award winning Playhouse, as featured on BBC Restoration, is housed in two 'B1' listed buildings, which were former Sister of Mercy Primary Schools dating back to 1887 and 1911. Refurbished at a cost of £4.6 million, winner of the UK BURA Award 2009, and finalist of BBC Restoration 2004, The Playhouse is well worth a visit.

Tour times: 10am, 11am, 12noon, 2pm and 3pm.

Also at The Playhouse, part of the British Federation for Historical Swordplay (BFHS) and the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, the Medieval Combat Group will be giving European Heritage Open Day visitors the unique opportunity to learn about the heritage of the European Longsword and its use during the 12th and 13th centuries. This Historic European Martial Arts (HEMA) group will utilise techniques from period manuscripts to recreate the fighting styles of the medieval era, to let you discover the history, see the techniques and even try a taster class (18+)! Everyone is welcome to watch the demonstration, however spaces will be limited for the following workshop, so booking is essential! More information and booking www.doeni.gov.uk.
Demonstration from 2pm - 2:30pm, workshop from 2:45pm - 3.30pm.
