"What I wanted was for Malachy Finegan to be exposed. I felt that the wee boy I had been might be stepping from the darkness, and I needed him to be heard and to be believed"

In November 1970, in an act of depraved, criminal selfishness, the paedophile priest Malachy Finegan began to abuse 11-year-old Gerard Gorman from Newcastle Co. Down.

Now with the help of his brother - the poet and playwright Damian Gorman - Gerard tells the story of that abuse: what was actually done to him; how it affected his life; and how he battled for years for justice from the Catholic Church. The story is told with utter honesty, warmth and sheer readability in Blackstaff Press's SO YOUNG - The Taking of my Life by the Catholic Church.

This telling is the opposite of Finegan's act, for it is one of selflessness, vulnerability and truth.

"I've not done this for me, I've done it in the hope that no one else has to go through what I did" Gerard Gorman

In this interview the two brothers discuss the book, and Gerard's feelings as it's about to come out...

"This book is an inspiration for all who have suffered through the malign power of a corrupt institution" Stephen Rea, actor
