Posted on: 13th May 2013

The Playhouse Theatre of Witness project Programme has been invited to present their groundbreaking work for the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland.

Following the project's showcase at the PEACE III Conference in Brussels in February this year, the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland have invited the Theatre of Witness to present their work for 47 EU Ambassadors as part of the Irish Presidency of the Council of Europe.

Representatives from Theatre of Witness will join Groundwork NI to speak at the event on Friday May 17.

The invitation follows another showcase by Theatre of Witness at Stormont this week. Organised by the Committee for the First and deputy First Minister (OFMdFM), the Stormont event on Wednesday May 8, was timed to coincide with a visit to Northern Ireland by the UK Minister of State for Europe, David Lidington, MP.

Teya Sepinuck the Creative Artistic Director, along with James Greer and Kathleen Gillespie, performers from the first two Theatre of Witness productions in Northern Ireland ‘We carried Your Secrets' and ‘I Once Knew a Girl', gave first-hand accounts of the project and their experiences, and film excerpts from previous work was also featured.

David Lidington expressed how impressed and profoundly touched he was by the Theatre of Witness present, how these brave stories illustrated how much healing work is done in Northern Ireland since the Good Friday Agreement.

"Exploring redemption, accountability and healing, both of these event represent an invaluable opportunity to highlight the work of the projects and that of the PEACE Programme at the centre of power in front of key policy and decision makers, and in the case of next week's event, to a pan-European audience" Theatre of Witness Artistic Director Teya Sepinuck said.

The Playhouse Theatre of Witness project is supported by the European Union's PEACE III Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the Community Relations Council/Pobal Consortium.
