Posted on: 15th June 2011

Alan Bennet's most famous play, ‘The History Boys', Marie Jones' hilarious ‘Women on the Verge of HRT' and a brand new commission by Rawlife Theatre Company are just some of the exciting shows coming up at The Playhouse This summer!

The award-wining theatre's June, July and August brochure, packed full of theatre shows, music events and of course the Playhouse's famous Children's Art Festival, is out now.

Several of the best local theatre companies will be bringing their work to the stage, including resident Theatre Company at The Playhouse, Sole Purpose's production of ‘Galatea' by Lawrence Aronavitch, and Rawlife Theatre Company's production of ‘The Christening', written by Pearse Elliot and directed by Martin McSharry.

In ‘The Christening' (Saturday 20th August) three West Belfast brothers and their immediate family meet at the christening of one of their children, while ‘Galatea' (Tuesday 23rd August) provides a fresh look at The Pygmalion legend from a gay perspective.

Also included in the brand new summer programme are several brand new plays by local playwrights, including ‘Solicitors' by local Playwright JP Conaghan on (Saturday 2nd July), in which two people meeting in the local magistrates explore deception, first impressions, and how doing the right thing can harm your reputation.

The Playhouse's famous annual Tots, Children's and Teens Art Festival will also be returning for its 19th proud year in July. The theme of this year's colourful and vibrant festival is time travel, and kids can partake in a wide range of workshops in drama, dance, art, Illusion Arts and Musical Theatre!

"We're thrilled to announce such a varying and colourful range of events this summer, especially plenty of new writings and new actors" Naill McCaughan, general manager at The Playhouse, said.

"We are especially excited about the 19th year of The Playhouse Children's and Youth Arts Festival, which has a time traveling theme for in celebration of the centenary of the Playhouse building. Make sure you get a copy of our action packed programme today!"
