A wide-range of The Playhouse's distinctive and original work in the Arts with local disability groups will be showcased next month at a very special festival next month.
Performances, exhibitions, film and video screenings and a discussion on accessible arts will make The Playhouse Disability Arts Festival a week of celebration and creativity to remember!
The Playhouse Education Department will display work on various projects with learners who have learning difficulties, acquired brain injuries, learners who are blind, partially sighted and Deaf sign language users from Monday 1 to Friday 5 July.
The week-long showcase will begin with the Digital Dialogue Derry~Londonderry Photographic Exhibition Launch on Monday July 1 at 1pm. Focusing on the "Faces of Derry~Londonderry" members from Lilliput Theatre Company, Foyle Down Syndrome Trust and The Willow Group will exhibit their digital dialogue images.
The Destined Artskills Showcase will then take place on Tuesday July 2 at 1pm, when participants will show work completed on The Playhouse's Artskills Project, including the Launch of participants' Creative Writing Booklet, Screening of Film and Videos, and a Website Launch.
On Wednesday July 3 from 1pm to 4pm, a performance presented by The Sensory Engagement Programme and The Playhouse "SenseAbility" will be staged. This performance has been devised through a partnership between RNIB, NCBI and Action on Hearing Loss and DeafHear, and will be audio described and interpreted with British and Irish Sign Language Interpreters. The event will be followed by Q&A Session and Discussion on Accessible Arts.
Benbradagh Photographic Exhibition will then be held on Thursday July 4 from 1pm to 3pm, encompassing a selection of photographic images centred around Limavady and the learners' interests.
The week will then finish with a performance by Foyle Disability Players of ‘Life is a journey ... and only you hold the map', an originally devised performance created by Eddie Kerr on Friday July 5 from 1pm to 3pm.
