Shared memory and Drama Project for Strabane’s LGBT Community

Posted on: 12th June 2015

Member of the LGBT community in Strabane or surrounding areas? Interested in LGBT rights? Want to tell your story or help get the stories of struggle, pride and prejudice told and performed in a dramatic setting?
The Playhouse Derry~Londonderry is inviting Strabane's LGBT community to get involved in the LGBT Lives Under the Radar Project.
Led by award winning LGBT writer and activist Hilary McCollum, members and supporters of the LGBT community will come together to explore and document their experiences through shared memory and storytelling. There will be a series of informal, social and fun workshops facilitated by Hilary McCollum in Strabane to explore relevant themes and share stories.
"These initial taster sessions will be held in late summer and will lead to more focussed storytelling and shared experience workshops" Hilary McCollum said.
"Finally, the shared stories and experiences will be developed into a script that will be performed in early 2016, with the participants of the Lives Under the Radar Project retained as the key authors.
"The project also seeks to link up with other similar projects worldwide to explore life under the radar as a member of the LGBT community."
The project will be delivered under the Good Relations programme of Derry and Strabane District Council and co-ordinated by The Playhouse Community Relations Officer Liam Campbell (funded by NICRC).
