Play for a Pound!

Posted on: 10th February 2014

As the city celebrates and congratulates after an exceptional year, The Playhouse is ensuring the magic continues in 2014 with an offer of £1 tickets for several more memorable events, performances and showcases.

The ‘Play for a Pound' offer is part of a new drive by the theatre to celebrate the legacy of inclusion and accessibility to the Arts laid down by the city's year as the first ever UK City of Culture.

Throughout the year the theatre will announce, through their ezine and social networks, several surprise £1 nights for certain shows, the first time that this has been done in N.Ireland.

The initiative has been launched as The Playhouse releases its 2104 legacy theatre programme for Spring. Three major Playhouse productions will premiere during the season, including the world premiere performance of new Northern Irish with Fahy Productions. In a dynamic joint production with The Playhouse and Fahy Productions 'All There Is' by Jonathan Bailie will come to The Playhouse from 11 to 15 February. Directed by J.P. Conaghan and starring local actors Nicky Harley, Francis Harkin and Micky Kelly, this dark comic play deals with the nature of choice and the possibility of reconciliation.

The critically acclaimed ‘Over the Wire' by multi award winning local writer Seamas Keenan will be restaged in March 2014 due to popular demand following its sold out premiere in January 2013.

The Playhouse will then present as part of their new Lifetime Achievement Series ‘An Evening with Doris Day and Gordon MacRae' By Kieran Griffiths in May. Audiences will be transported back to the era of romance as Hollywood's golden couple Doris Day and Gordon MacRae reunite on stage to tell the story of their lives.

"Accessibility to the Arts is key to building a lasting legacy" Niall Mc Caughan at The Playhouse said. "It's about making sure we reach everyone, removing barriers and spreading the social and cultural inheritance left by a wonderful year by offering £1 tickets. So all we ask of customers is that they spread the good word if they like the show! So if you're not on our mailing list, be sure to join soon!"
