Playhouse Children & Youth Arts Festival celebrates theme of Irish myths & legends!

July 22nd - August 2nd 2013

This summer The Playhouse Children and Youth Arts Festival will be celebrating its 21st Birthday with the theme of myths and legends!
As the city anticipates the Return of Colmcille, and our legendary figures don the spotlight for a year of celebration and exploration of local heritage for 2013, this year's Playhouse Children's Arts Festival will bring more local tales and folklore to life!
Amelia Earhart, the legend of St Columba, and mythical creatures of all shapes will come to the festival to mark its 21st birthday from Monday 22 June- Friday August 2.
With the help of the BBC Northern Ireland Bus, Partridge Peartree, and a team of fully qualified artists and facilitators, the two week festival will provide a wide and colourful variety of workshops for ages of 4 - 16 that are sure to impress and amaze, while educating the young people about the legends behind the city.
The longest running festival of its kind, the festival will be divided into three age categories; from 4-6 year olds, 7-12 years old and our teens - ranging from 13-16. This means that every group will get the very best and most out of their experience and ensures a safe and friendly environment during their summer visit.
Under the exciting ‘Lengenderry' theme, teens participating in the festival will also be treated to classes in special effects, stage make up, animation, social networking and journalism with the BBC.
Fiona Mc Laughlin of the Playhouse said "Every year, the staff and facilitators look forward to running the Arts Festival, for them it's an integral event on the calendar. Children and Teenagers have an untarnished, honest and unique way of viewing the world around them, and The Playhouse strives to encourage and nurture children's talent and give them an opportunity to express themselves through the arts in a fun, caring and creative environment."
"Unfortunately, there are only a limited number of spaces and the demand is very high, so to make sure your child gets everything out of this amazing experience, contact the Playhouse today- it's an absolute must on the summer calendar!"
BBC Northern Ireland's Knowledge and Learning team said they were looking forward to helping young journalists report from City of Culture 2013.
"Budding journalists will take over the BBC Northern Ireland Bus, learning the tricks of the trade to produce video, audio and written features, which brings the colour and excitement of the Youth Arts Festival to a wider audience" John McAliskey, BBC Northern Ireland, said.
The Playhouse Children and Youth Arts Festival will run from Monday 22 June- Friday August 2. To book or for further Information contact The Playhouse Box Office on (028) 71268027 or CLICK HERE
