Singing for Health and Happiness with Valerie Whitworth
An inspirational voice coach who champions the healing benefits of singing will return to The Playhouse for another series of "Singing for Health and Happiness" workshops.
Singer and teacher Valerie Whitworth trained with Frankie Armstrong, who pioneered the Natural Voice Technique with the philosophy ‘if you can speak you can sing'. Valerie has established an enviable reputation across Tyrone and Fermanagh and has two choirs in Omagh and in Enniskillen called ‘Together One Voice'. Her warm relaxed style invites singers of all ages and abilities to experience the joy, the thrill, the therapy of singing in harmony in a large group of people.
Valerie discovered the healing benefits of singing having suffered post natal depression. Attending a weekly singing class helped her recovery and became the highlight of her week. This experience led to the creation of "Singing for Health and Happiness" workshops. She has experience working with all ages and abilities including in a Mental Health setting and has seen a huge range of benefits to people's self esteem and confidence.
All the singing is taught by ear without sheet music; she covers a wide range of uplifting songs and styles from around the world, from simple chants to more complex pieces in three and four part harmony.
"Singing is good for the soul they say; it makes you feel great, it creates a wonderful feeling of community, and the buzz is second to none. Our Autumn 2012 sessions are about to take off, and everyone is warmly welcome. So get in touch!" Valerie said.
Classes start at The Playhouse, Derry-Londonderry on Wednesday 26th September from 7pm- 9pm and run for ten weeks. Cost is £7 per session.
