PRODUCTION: ‘Beyond the Barricades’
Play staged on Thursday 26th & Friday 27th March 2020
Directed by Anne Crilly and Written by Micheal Kerrigan.
This new original play, part of the Theatre& Peacebuilding Academy, explores the world of 1969 as the Battle of the Bogside rages – through the eyes of characters trying to make sense of their own place, their own identity and sexuality amid a world in flux.
AUDITIONS ON FRIDAY 31st JANUARY.
Venue: The Playhouse, Derry
We are seeking 3 actors: two male and one female who will play several parts:
CAL - male, early 20s. Medium build , Derry working class. Cal is a dreamer. Creative, expressive impulsive. Feels he doesn’t fit in but doesn’t know why. Some singing and dancing in his Interior Fantasy world. Civil Rights Marcher. Willingness to learn piano.
MACHUS - Cal’s best friend. Male, early 20s ,medium to tall build. Working class Derry. Cocky, confident, flirty, a ‘Jack the lad’ but is unnerved by Cal’s intensity,.Civil Rights Activist Machus plays several other roles - Cal’s mother, Mrs Donnelly and James , the piano teacher.
FREE DERRY VOICE- Female, 30s to 50s. Medium build. Free Derry Radio Announcer, working class Derry, is cynical, and a bit weary.. Sees humour in the claustrophobic surreal world of Free Derry. .Suspicious of visiting male ‘lefties ‘ but protective of female ‘lefties’.
