Over the past thirty years the arts have become a significant tool of conflict resolution.
The international Masters Artist Educator based at ArtEZ in the Netherlands, was established in 2016 in response to the need for a praxis led education programme that addresses some of the core issues related to this growing field of practice.
In partnership with the Playhouse in Northern Ireland, Arte Util (Eindhoven) and Kunstbedrijf Arnhem, the programme presents a seminar that questions the ethics and effectiveness of artistic interventions in contested spaces.
The aim of the seminar is to begin a discussion that could lay the foundations for a practice based research project that explores the realities and tensions of working in contested space. The seminar asks us to consider the 'usefulness' of art in such contexts and try to uncover some of the key capacities needed to be an effective and affective artist educator in the field of conflict transformation.
