Shaun Davey's Relief of Derry Symphony, arranged for flute by Mel Orriss.
The Churchill Flute Band, The Hamilton Flute Band and members of the William King Flute Band, along with the classical Festive Flutes, the folk flute of Marcas O'Murchu and the voice of Doreen Curran.
The Relief of Derry Symphony was written for the 300th Anniversary of the Siege of Londonderry in 1998. 2013 UK City of Culture year seemed perfect to bring together the outstanding musicianship of the City's flute bands, and flautists of all genres, to perform this Symphony especially arranged for Flute. As we count down to the days before the 324th Annual Commemoration of the Relief of Londonderry, what better way to celebrate than with his wonderfully atmospheric piece of music played in St Columb's Cathedral, the Siege Church.
The two evening performances on the 8th and 9th August promise to be very special. Any flautist or anyone with an appreciation of the great flute traditions of the City will not want to miss this event. A must in Festival week.Tickets £5
