Garden of Reflection presents Teya Sepinuck announced as Garden of Reflection’s Chair of Theatrical Innovation Wednesday 11th June 2014 5pm

The City Centre Garden of Reflection project is delighted that the Chair of Theatrical Innovation will be Teya Sepinuck for the third of its Chairs of Learning events.

The theme that Teya will be addressing during the event is ‘Final Reflections on Theatre of Witness in Northern Ireland'.

The City Centre Garden of Reflection Project is a partnership between Inner City Trust (Lead Partner), Derry City Council and DiverseCity Community Partnership. In addition to the programme element, the project has two major physical elements - the installation of lights to illuminate the City Walls and the development of the Garden of Reflection to the rear of the newly developed Holywell building in Bishop Street. The project is funded by the PEACE III Programme through the European Union's Regional Development Fund managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

Theatre of Witness, a model of performance that gives voice to those whose stories haven't been heard. For the past 29 years, Teya has been creating and producing Theatre of Witness projects with prisoners and their families, survivors and perpetrators of abuse, refugees, immigrants, elders and those who have lived through war. Theatre of Witness has since taken Teya to Poland and here to Northern Ireland where she is currently completing her 5th and final year as artistic director of The Playhouse Theatre of Witness Programme. Through this partnered programme with Holywell Trust, Teya created a trilogy of original works with ex-combatants, members of the security forces, survivors, witnesses and those living with the intergenerational legacy of the Troubles. Her final Theatre of Witness project was with those seeking asylum and safe haven in Northern Ireland.

All of these works have been made into documentary videos and continue to be featured in workshops, screenings and discussions throughout north and border counties. Live productions have toured to more than 25 venues as well as Brussels, London, and Utrecht.

The theme for the Chair of Theatrical Innovation event on 11th June is ‘Final Reflections of Theatre of Witness in Northern Ireland' and it will be Teya's last formal event in Northern Ireland.

The Chair of Illumination session will take place on Wednesday 11th June from 5.00pm until 7.00pm (food will be provided at 5.00pm) in the Holywell - DiverseCity Community Partnership, 8-14 Bishop Street, (The Junction Meeting Room).

The session is free and open for to attend. Please email or call 028 7126 1941 to confirm your attendance.
