The Playhouse with Foyle Women's Aid
Costume Making Workshop
Thursday 27th, Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August | 10.00am to 3.30pm
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Nearly everyone in this city has a mother or a granny who sat at a machine in one of the shirt factories. There was a time when Derry was full of people who could sew, and who were quietly very good at it. A lot of that skill is still about, sitting in hands that haven't used it in years.
This is five hours of putting it back to work, using the same techniques a theatre wardrobe uses. Layering fabric, fusing, trims and beadwork, finishing by hand or on a machine.
If you've sewn before, in a factory or at home, you'll take to it quickly and you'll probably teach us a few things. If you've never sat at a machine, that's grand too. Your faciliator, Amy Carroll will talk you through all of it.
Everything is provided, lunch included, and you'll take home what you make. Tea, chat, and a good day's making.
Three Days, Pick One
Thursday 27th, Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August
The same workshop runs on each of the three days, so come to whichever one suits you. 10.00am to 3.30pm, with lunch provided. Ten places on each day.
No cost. Women only. No experience needed. Everything provided, and you take home what you make.
