One of the City Calendar's highlights, The Playhouse Childrens Arts Festival, is the longest running Childrens Arts Festival in Northern Ireland.
For the last two weeks of every July, The Playhouse host this colourful and funfilled extravaganza, with children of all ages taking part in workshops Drama, Visual Arts, Dance and more!

Art in Motion
The 2012 The Playhouse's Children's Arts Festival meet it's goal to A.I.M high by launching Art in Motion 2012. Northern Ireland's longest running Children's Arts Festival celebrated its 20th year with a vibrant selection of art themes to suit children from 3- 12 years of age.
The A.I.M (Art in Motion) Youth Arts Festival for 13-16 year olds was also launched in 2012, including graffiti/street art, music and motion, and for the first time ever culinary arts!
N.Ireland's longest running Children's and Youth Arts Festival is back again this summer and celebrating its 21st Birthday!
Even bigger and better, because we had another reason to celebrate as 2013 UK City of Culture!
For the two-week masterclasses, a team of the best qualified facilitators provided a wide and colourful variety of fun workshops that are sure to entertain and educate! Teens were also be treated to classes in Special Effects, Stage Make up, Animation, Social Networking and Journalism with the BBC!
Music City came to The Playhouse Children and Teens Arts Festiva with music photography, video animation and DIY instruments!
While Derry ~Londonderry celebrated its unique musical heritage and 2013 legacy with its designation as City of Music 2014, The Playhouse kids were making their own musical mark!
Music Photographers with independent record label Smalltown America, artists and curators from local Art Galleries, and the founder of a new musical theatre company were among the facilitators announced for the two week festival.
The Art of Science!
For its 23rd year, The Festival explored the theme of The Art of Science during two fantastic weeks of workshops in Drama, Visual Arts, Dance, Music and much more, including a new Teen Drama Intensive for 13- 16 year olds.
For our 24th year, with a foodie theme, a new tasty breakfast club and experiments in growing food were on the menu for the festival.
Fresh artistic feasts included workshops in edible food sculptures, street art, dance, drama and music.
Free addition workshops included Cupcake decorating in a Funky Cakes Masterclass, a Kids workshop with Foyle Loughs Agency and a W5 Belfast Science Magic show.
With a fun filled theme of the Big Birthday Celebration, the Festival lined up a full party guest list of graffiti artists, dancers, graphic designers, set designers, musical theatre directors and visual artists.
Aditional workshops and classes included a Balloon Modelling workshop with Duff Balloons World Record breaker Ryan Tracey, basic sewing techniques to make handcrafted pieces with Sew Easy and an interactive workshop with the Loughs Agency.
For its 26th year, The Festival will explore the theme of Illuminate! during two fantastic weeks of workshops in Drama, Visual Arts, Dance, Music!
