HANGING HOOKE
By Siobhán Nicholas
Performed by Chris Barnes

"This is the most wonderful piece of new writing I have seen in years" Plays International
"a riveting portrayal by Chris Barnes" Eastbourne Herald

Robert Hooke was one of the fathers of modern science, thought by many to be the greatest natural philosopher of the 17th century. As curator of Experiments for the Royal Society he poured out a stream of brilliant concepts on universal gravity, evolution and atomic theory.Yet this genius provoked intense loyalty, controversy, jealousy and hatred. Christopher Wren loved him, Isaac Newton loathed him and after his death, Hooke was written out of history - until a three hundred year-old manuscript, unearthed in Hampshire, was revealed to be the lost folio of Robert Hooke. Nominated for both the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the MeyerWhitworth award Hanging Hooke is a tale of intrigue, betrayal
and the price of fame.
