"I Once Knew a Girl..." has just started a month long tour.
The new Playhouse Theatre of Witness production, "I Once Knew a Girl..." has just started a month long tour.
"I Once Knew a Girl...", is an original multi-media Theatre of Witness production performed and created by women who's lives were affected during the Troubles.
Based on their true life stories, the production is performed by daughters, mothers, grandmothers and partners who through the circumstances of history became involved as witnesses, survivors, and active participants of the Troubles as well as more recent years of peace building.
The tour follows on from the success of their 2009 production "We Carried Your Secrets".
The production, written and directed by Theatre of Witness founder Teya Sepinuck is a glimpse into some of these more private, hidden and untold stories of women.
Theatre of Witness gives voice to those who have been marginalised, forgotten or are invisible to wider society. In this form of theatre, true, life stories, performed by the people themselves, are shared onstage so that audiences can collectively bear witness to issues of suffering, redemption and social justice.
With original Music Composition by award winning Brian Irvine and Film segments by John McIllduff, this production which focuses on the lives of Anne Walker, Catherine McCartney, Kathleen Gillespie, Maria Murphy, Ruth Moore and Therese McCann. These women will portray their own journeys of reconciliation, reconnection and healing, thereby creating performances of raw depth, honesty and truth.
