A new play, created by young people, will be performed on Tuesday 30th June in The Playhouse Dance Studio!
The play, It's Time, has been written by members of Niamh Louise Youth Group, part of the Niamh Louise Foundation, which supports young people through awareness raising of emotional well-being, emotional ill health, suicide and self-harm.
It has been scripted in conjunction with a professional writer and director from Tinderbox Theatre Company. It tells the stories of three typical young people who find it hard to deal with everyday pressures, but find the support they need by talking to their nearest and dearest.
The play will be performed by leading local youth theatre company More Pies, who have performed in top theatres nationwide, including the National Theatre, London, the Lyric Theatre in Belfast, and Derry Playhouse. The company was a winner of the National Connections competition in 2012.
Tinderbox Theatre Company director Don Mc Camphill has been working with the young people for six months, supported by the staff at Niamh Louise Foundation and More Pies, during which time the ideas for the play evolved and the performance took shape. He says:
"This is a unique project. The young people from the youth group have a really clear vision of how young people should be treated, and how parents and carers need to pay attention to their needs, talk to them and listen to them. The strength of the ideas meant we very quickly got the concept for the script, and that we were able to deliver a really positive message."
The play runs for one night only in the Playhouse, Derry, on Tuesday 30th June at 7pm. Entry is free.
