Whitbread prize winner and Booker Prize nominee Jennifer Johnston read from her newest work ‘Truth or Fiction', at The Playhouse Theatre on Friday, June 11 2010.
The Playhouse patron also held a discussion with the audience about her 16th novel, which concerns itself with the life of all-but forgotten writer Desmond Fitzmaurice, as discovered by London journalist, Caroline Wallace.
Caroline is sent on a whim by her literary editor to "revive interest" in Desmond's work. Desmond is loosely based on Jennifer's own father Dennis Johnston, and the novel explores a life of complicated family arrangements with customary subtlety and sharpness.
"Jennifer Johnston is widely regarded as one of Ireland's finest novelists, and we are extremely honoured to have her as a patron at The Playhouse" Pauline Ross, founder of The Playhouse said.
"We were thrilled to give audiences the opportunity to join her in her 80th year for a great evening."
