As The Playhouse stages two storming City of Culture 2013 production at once- the theatre is reaching dizzying heights in Glasgow!

Just as The Playhouse prepares to open their latest production for 2013, ‘Re-energize' by Gary Mitchell, announcing a two week tour for the show to The Lyric, Belfast in September, The Playhouse tour of ‘Over the Wire' has received rave reviews in Glasgow!

The only piece commissioned for the City of Culture programme announced to tour outside of Northern Ireland, ‘Over the Wire' tells the powerful and captivating story of five men's survival in the aftermath of the burning of a Northern Irish prison.

The play has been lauded as a "gripping, brutal, at times bleakly funny exploration of institutionalism and paranoia" by The Scotsman. Praising the "excellent" local cast, the paper has described the "intense psychological piece" as "an impressive calling card". Scottish Television (STV.com) said Seamas Keenan's "fine line in black comedy shines through the grimness, in what is a powerful and gripping production". The Herald praised "Keenan's script illustrating the pains of confinement with a gimlet-eyed lack of sentimentality devastatingly portrayed by a fine ensemble cast"

Produced by The Playhouse and directed by BAFTA award winning Film and TV director Kenny Glenaan and written by multi award winning Irish writer Seamas Keenan, ‘Over The Wire' toured to The Tron Theatre, Glasgow for its acclaimed political theatre festival ‘Mayfesto' from Wednesday 8 to Saturday 11 May.

Closer to home, the Artillery Street theatre is opening its fourth City of Culture Production ‘Re-Energize' by Gary Mitchell. Conall Morrison, whose theatre work has been celebrated around the world, will direct the production, which is set thirty years after The Playhouse's production of Gary Mitchell's ‘Energy' in 1999, where a wannabe punk band rehearsed, bickered and tried to get their act together for that all-important first gig.

Brothers and members of the mighty Undertones John and Damian O'Neill have written the original score for the play, which will run at The Playhouse from Monday 13- Saturday 18 May, before touring to the Lyric in Belfast from September 9 to 23.
