Field Day, Sole Purpose and a new Jammhouse- It’s the new Playhouse brochure!
A Field Day Lecture, a groundbreaking culture festival and a new Jammhouse event are just some of the highlights at The Playhouse this summer!
Packed full of theatre shows, music events and The Playhouse's famous Children's Art Festival, the July and August brochure is out now.
The Field Day Lectures Series will return on Saturday July 7. Poet, critic, novelist and member of Field Day board of directors Seamus Deane will explore the idea of ‘sense of place' in a selection of Field Day plays past.
Returning for its 20th year The Playhouse's famous annual Children's and Teens Art Festival will run from Monday 16 to Friday 27 July. A team of fully qualified facilitators will teach a wide and colourful variety of classes, including Visual Art, Drama, Music, Dance and for the first time ever Culinary Arts.
The ever popular jammhouse music nights will return with rising star Soak. Soak was the first artist to sit on the jammhouse sofa and has gone from strength to strength since. She will now release her 2nd EP Sea Creatures after selling out her 1st at gigs throughout the North West on Saturday August 4 from 8.30pm.
Sole Purpose's production of ‘Galatea' by Lawrence Aronavitch will also return on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 August due to popular demand as part of a tour across Northern Ireland for this years Pride Festivals. Galatea takes a fresh look at the Pygmalion legend from a gay perspective.
Culture Tech, a groundbreaking festival of digital culture and technologies organised by Digital Derry will also come to The Playhouse for four days from Wednesday August 29 to Saturday September 1.
"This brochure marks another in the countdown to City of Culture 2013, and throughout these two summer months there is a staggering array of local talent and culture being showcased" Niall McCaughan, general manager at The Playhouse, said.
"In music alone we have a great Jammhouse event, bi-monthly local music nights which have gone from strength to strength since they started in February, and the LinkFest, a brand new music festival being held throughout the city showcasing the best of local talent, including performances including Lost Avenue, Wyldling, Making Mondsters, Erin Mitchell and Soak."
