Hollywood's golden couple, Spike Milligan, the modern music industry and poetry slam performances for children are all packed into one season at The Playhouse!
A show stopping mix of local and national theatre, music, comedy, and even a poetry slam for 3-5 year olds has been announced for Artillery Street theatre's new Spring programme.
For the theatre's January to May 2016 programme they have announced a new legacy commission, ‘Bag for Life' by Colin Bateman, running from Tuesday 5 to Saturday 9 April. The award winning novelist and screenwriter's second stage play asks the question, can forgiveness overcome the want for revenge in 21st century Northern Ireland?
The theatre will also once more visit travel to a larger stage for ‘An Evening with Doris Day and Gordon MacRae' at The Millennium Forum for one night only on Valentine's weekend (Friday 12 February). A treat for the eyes and the ears, audiences will fall in love with the infallibly seductive sounds of the 1950's, featuring the beautiful bass baritone voice of Karl McGuckin and star of musical theatre Alex Sharpe.
The new programme will also introduce brand new twist on the hugely successful unique interactive show, The original Playhouse Jazz Festival ‘Speakeasy'. This time The Playhouse takes audiences on a journey to the 50s for the Story of Billie Holiday and the Andrew Sisters!
Fresh from touring with the ‘Swinging At The Cotton Club' Theatre Tour throughout the UK, diva Marlene Hill will perform as the great Lady Day at the official bar of the Jazz Festival from Thursday 28 April to Sunday 1 May.
Other theatrical treats include Big Telly Theatre Company's smash hit production of Spike Milligan's ‘Puckoon', Replay Theatre Company in partnership with Nottingham Playhouse with a new children's show ‘Wigglegiggle', Tinderbox Theatre Company with Jimmy McAleavey's superb monologue ‘The Virgin Father', and special showcases from Class Act School of Speech and Drama and Fireworks Dance Academy.
