Three Monologues by Jennifer Johnston
Tuesday 10 to Saturday 14 December

The cast has been announced for the concluding highlights of The Playhouse's 2013 programme- a rarely performed theatre piece by one of Ireland's greatest living writers.
Dublin actors Helen Behan, Gina Moxley will join local actor Pat Lynch in an unusual staging of 'Twinkletoes', 'Mustn't Forget High Noon', 'Christine' by Jennifer Johnston in December 2013.
The three monologues, written by award-winning Irish author Jennifer Johnston in response to The Troubles in Northern Ireland, has been billed as the final and most ambitious production of what has been an extraordinary and unprecedented year for The Playhouse.
The Playhouse has announced as part of the run, audiences will be given the opportunity to be transported (literally and spiritually) into the 1980s. Three secret locations will provide the backdrop for several special on location performances of this Playhouse production.
In ‘Mustn't Forget High Noon' the best friend of a young Protestant man, Billy, has just been shot by the IRA. In ‘Christine' the wife of Billy mourns his violent death at the hands of the IRA. ‘Twinkletoes' follows the story of the wife of a top IRA prisoner who is looked up to by her community.
The Playhouse production of the lesser known dramatic work will run from Tuesday 10 to Saturday 14 December under the direction of Caitríona McLaughlin. Widely recognised for her work in the US and UK, Catriona's direction of the Artillery Street theatre's second 2013 production, ‘On the Subject of Love' by Ken McCormack, was met with critical acclaim and set the tone for a daring and vibrant programme of events to mark the city's year as the first ever UK City of Culture.

"That programme will draw to a close with a play that is honest , courageous and intensely moving" Pauline Ross, founder and artistic director at The Playhouse said.

"An unwavering look at the traumas and grief of the troubles, these three individual monologues are a beautiful exploration of survival and courage in the midst of chaos. We can't think of a more fitting way to end a year that has set focused and resolute exploration and inquiry of this city and its history at its heart."
