First month as UK City of Culture a storming success at Playhouse!
"The audience was hooked from the moment they stepped into the unique theatre setting"
As the rave reviews poured in for The Playhouse's first production of 2013, the theatre has announced a storming start to 2013.
The theatre's debut 2013 production ‘Over the Wire' by Seamas Keenan has been met with critical acclaim, with critics describing the production as "exceptional", "gripping" and "powerful yet provocative".
Irish Theatre Magazine describes the production as "a play that looks beyond questions of justification and the rights and wrongs of the Northern Irish conflict, to explore instead the loneliness and despair of the individual, caught in a particular moment of history", while the Belfast Telegraph describes the play as "a very real, gripping and graphic portrayal of an event in our recent history". The Irish News described the play as production that "reached out, grabbed the audience and shook them off their seats... Such was the caliber of the acting, writing, directing and production... ‘Over the Wire' is a must see for anyone interested in modern Irish history".
The production quickly sold out; as did an extra performance put on to meet with high demand.
And hot on its toes comes the cultured, clever, but eccentric and extravagant, The Earl Bishop of Derry!
A periodic ‘Playboy'- a great lover of art, architecture and women- Frederick Augustus Hervey will onto the Playhouse stage for the next 2013 production from Tuesday February 19 and to Saturday February 23.
"Through the experienced hands of director Catriona McLaughlin, actor Howard Teale and composer Adam Burnette, Ken McCormack's ‘On the Subject of Love' explores the infamous 18th century Earl's insatiable hunger for love, lust and life as he searches for the perfect woman!" Kieran Griffiths, Playhouse 2013 theatre producer said.
