mydata6="Official Launch of Architectural Plans for the Playhouse
Launch Date: 7th May 2008, 1:00pm
On Wednesday 7th May at 1:00pm the Award Winning The Playhouse, is officially launching its Architectural Plans for the £4.3 million refurbishment of its two historic listed buildings. The event will take place in The Playhouses temporary home, St Columb’s Hall and will be attended by a number of VIPs.
The historic buildings which featured in the national media during BBC Restoration (N.Ireland winner) are being completely refurbished, as well as the addition of a large extension with will include additional workshop spaces, incubation units, a new reception area, lifts, toilets, bar facilities, etc. The funders for the refurbishment project include:
* The Arts Council of Northern Ireland
* Heritage Lottery Fund
* DCAL/Ilex North West Challenge Fund
* The International Funds For Ireland
* NITB
* The Honourable The Irish Society
* Ulster Garden Villages Ltd
* Environment & Heritages Services for N.Ireland
* Adapt NI
* DETI
* The Playhouse
As well as the plans being launched, The Playhouse will be launching its Sponsorship Campaign to encourage individuals and organisations to be part of this success story. Through this campaign there will also be a wider call for the business community to become more involved in the arts sector in N.Ireland. Unlike the rest of the UK, there isn’t a history of corporate sponsorship in N.Ireland in the arts.
The Playhouse itself was founded in 1992 and has grown to become one of the largest busiest art centres in Ireland, operating virtually 24/7. The multi-disciplinary art centre houses an award winning theatre (The Stage UK Outstanding Theatre Award), art gallery, dance studio, extensive education and outreach department, art resource centre and is home to many cultural based tenants. Unusually the venue is one of a handful of theatre venues in the island of Ireland commissioning, producing and touring new theatre work. Also uniquely, its education and outreach work extents across Ireland and further afield.
For more information contact Niall Mc Caughan, General Manager of The Playhouse at Tel: (028) 71268027 or email: niall@derryplayhouse.co.uk."
