"I think we are really quick to say what colors in the crayon box other people are allowed to use. I like to use as much colors as I can and I do not believe in coloring inside the lines."
Delighted that Dutch artists Lory Stuurman and Caro de Feijter have developed portraits and sound pieces to tell the stories of young LGBTQ+ people from Derry/Londonderry for Foyle Pride Festival 2017.
The portraits and sound pieces in The Playhouse Plaza will be launched on Tuesday 22 August at 6pm and be on display until Saturday 26 August.
Two dimensional artworks developed as part of the project will also be on display on the Peace Bridge (Foyle) and throughout the city. Installations will be in public toilets in Sandinos Bar/Club, The Yellow Yard, Void Derry and The Playhouse.
The aim of The Playhouse project, funded by Northern Ireland Executive, is to show the diversity of LGBTQ+ and to combat the often stereotypical and black and white image of gender and sexuality.
Lory is a photographer and is interested in the socially constructed gender norms and Caro is a theatre maker and installation artist who focuses on diversity in sexuality and gender.
Many thanks to: The Playhouse, International Master Artist Educator (ArtEZ), Eimear Willes, Audrey Gillespie and all the people that wanted to share their stories.
