An exhibition exploring of identities and localities by the local art collective Open Door 77.
Currently onsisting of a dozen members, the group are an ever expanding collective who work across media and themes. Members include Colm Mulhern, Stephen Boyle, Rory Harron, Brian Farrell, Kevin Morrison and Rachael Johnson. Recent recruits who will be exhibiting at the Playhouse include Catherine Ellis, Catherine Duddy, Mary McLaughlin, Julius Guzy, Jim Harkin and Leona Devine.
The original members began the project on Winter Solstice at Grianan of Aileach. Some interpret the Neolithic structures created by our ancestors as an attempt to join the earth with the heavens. These standing stones and sun forts are immediately local yet conceptually interstellar. The dolmens stretch from these islands into Carnac in France, the north of Spain and right through Europe and on into Asia and Africa. At the time these structures were conceived and built, the borders of our lands were very different to how they are defined today. Time has passed, borders have changed. However, the sites remain. The divisions and tribes of today share this common ancestor.
The pilgrimage to Grianan served as the beginning of the creative process. Each artist has responded to the ‘Origins' theme in their own, unique way. The exhibition will incorporate sculptures, drawings, paintings and installations. Everyone is welcome to the opening of this exciting show on Tuesday the 16th of July at 7pm - 9pm to view the work and discuss the work with the artists.Free All are welcome
