Mary Hughes – A Life in Art Tuesday 6th August 2013 to Monday 12th August 2013

The work of a retired local art teacher showcased in a one-off exhibition at The Playhouse.

Mary Hughes - A Life in Art will feature a selection of mounted photographs of stained glass, stained glass paintings, landscape and portrait work from over the past 60 years.

Mrs Hughes taught art and design in the city for over 20 years, in schools and colleges including Foyle and Londonderry College, St. Cecilia's College and the North West College of Technology. She also taught a weekly art therapy class at Gransha Hospital for many years.

Amongst the highlights of the photographic exhibition is a painting and a stained glass portrait of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, the original glass of which Mrs Hughes donated to St. Cecilia's College, following the completion of her daughter Jane's education there.
