Singing for Health and happiness
Singing for Health and happiness at The Playhouse
A series of special Workshops at the Playhouse is offering people the chance to take time out of their busy lives to have some fun and sing!
Valerie Whitworth is an inspirational teacher and voice coach and the Playhouse brings her unique workshop to Derry. Her warm teaching style is both professional and relaxed, bringing out the best in all levels of vocal ability.
Valerie trained with Frankie Armstrong who pioneered the Natural Voice Technique, whose philosophy is - ‘if you can speak you can sing'. Valerie has established an enviable reputation across Tyrone and Fermanagh. She has two choirs in Omagh and in Enniskillen called ‘Together One Voice'. The songs taught in the workshop range from simple chants, to more complex works in three or four part harmony and are all taught by ear.
Valerie discovered the healing benefits of singing having suffered post natal depression. Attending a weekly singing class helped her recovery and became the highlight of her week. This experience led to the creation of "Singing for Health and Happiness" workshops. She has experience working with all ages and abilities including in a Mental Health setting and has seen a huge range of benefits to people's self esteem and confidence.
The workshops will take place at the Playhouse from 7pm - 9pm every Wednesday from 25th January to 28th March. Cost is £10 or £80 for the full 10 week course (payment in two installments is available).
