ICAN 2010 – 2013

International Culture Arts Network (ICAN) is a vibrant project designed by the Playhouse, which builds on the successes of previous Playhouse projects. ICAN will be delivered by the Playhouse in partnership with North 55, Co. Donegal. This project is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Peace and Reconciliation (PEACE III) Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
Since its inception the Playhouse has, and continues to nurture local, national and International collaborations and partnerships which have thus far provided a range of inspiring outcomes. The ICAN project will use & develop the Playhouse and North 55's international connections to bring high quality artists to the North of Ireland and the Border Counties to work with, trade and exchange skills and knowledge with the local communities.
ICAN will enable local practitioners and community groups to collaborate with internationally renowned artists who have significant experience of using arts activity in areas of war, conflict and former conflict. Furthermore, ICAN will use arts activity as a mechanism to build peace, explore community relations issues and promote social inclusion through the exchange of experiences & practice amongst participants from local, national, European and international backgrounds.
Throughout the next three years ICAN will deliver a number of innovative projects including conferences, residential and collaborative projects which will take place throughout the North of Ireland and the Border area.
This is a unique project which will bring the very best of international artists and art practice to the City of Derry and the surrounding area. The project will enable international partnerships to be created, new dynamic conversations to take place and exciting and unpredictable challenging art to be created.
In essence ICAN will heighten the North West's creative arts profile placing local art on the international platform and placing ICAN as a leader in promoting conflict resolution. This project presents a great opportunity to create dynamic new projects and models of practice and at the same time as networking individuals, groups and organizations together.
